Bengaluru, Jul 30: In a sharp attack on Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s BJP government in the State, JD(S) leader and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has accused the ‘double engine BJP rule at Centre and State of playing Double Game’ by entrusting only the Praveen Nettaru murder case to National Investigation Agency (NIA) and demanded that all the political murders in the coastal region must be handed over to NIA.
“Why is the Bommai government afraid of entrusting all recent murders in the coastal region to NIA instead of handing over just the Praveen murder case,’’ he asked and lashed out at the Bommai government for its total failure in maintaining law and order situation in the State.
Kumaraswamy wondered how the BJP government be expected to protect all the citizens when it cannot curb the political murders in the coastal region and protect its own ruling party workers.
“The State Government is fully aware of all the developments in the coastal region and knows why the murders are taking place. This double engine government is playing double game. What is the point in bragging of BJP being the largest political party in the world when it cannot guarantee the safety of the youth who were instrumental its rise,’’ he asked.
The JD(S) leader lashed out at Bommai for displaying his bravado by entrusting Praveen’s murder to NIA and wanted to know the message he sent out to the people of Mangalore. “Why he did not utter an appeal to the people to maintain peace? Why the government is not doing anything to handle the situation? This is nothing but pouring oil to the fire of violence,’’ he said when two murders took place in Bellare village of Sullia taluk.
He also asked the government to reveal as to how many case that were entrusted to NIA have reached a logical end. What is the message that the Chief Minister is sending to the State police by handing over the investigation to NIA, he said and deplored that the Chief Minister who had served as Home Minister is unable to maintain law and order situation in the State.
Kumaraswamy said if honest, efficient and committed police officers in the State are given full freedom, they will put an end to the cult of violence in the coastal region. But the BJP government is not interested and has no faith in its own capable police officers. Handing over the investigation to NIA would not help, he said.
Kumaraswamy said the BJP government wants the cult of violence to continue in the coastal region and the murders to go on unabated as the ruling party is more interested in getting more votes through its politics of murder.
He warned that the entire coastal region and the State might erupt against the government and force its ouster if the government fails to handle the situation.
The former Chief Minister criticised the reported assault against journalists by former Assembly Speaker and senior Congress leader K R Ramesh Kumar in Kolar.
