Mangaluru, Jul 31: Strict vigil is kept at Kerala borders in the state in the wake of untoward incidents that have taken place in Dakshina Kannada district in the past few days.
Police patrolling has been increased in the border areas of Konaje, Ullal, Vittal, Puttur and Sullia. Police have intensified vehicle checking right from the morning of Friday in Konaje and Ullal police station limits. Kerala police have also started checking vehicles on the other side of the border at Talapady.
Two police personnel are deputed at Devipura of Talapady as many people use this inner road to avoid toll fee. Konaje police are checking vehicles that are arriving from Nettilapadavu – Kedambady border area. Police are also deployed at Mudungarukatte, Paturu, Nandarapadpu and Narya border areas.
KSRP company of 25 personnel is deployed at Vittal from Saturday at various checkposts. Additional police personnel are deployed at Saradka, Kanyana and Salethur check posts.
Checking is intensified at Panaje checkpost that connects Puttur and Kasargod. Palathur checkpost vehicle monitoring has also been increased.
Vehicle checking is also in progress at Jalsoor checkpost which is bordering Sullia with Kerala. Security is beefed up in Adoor checkpost also.
The CCTV camera installed on the traffic pole at Kerala Karnataka border on NH 66 is missing. Police have to depend on the CCTV cameras of nearby people in order to trace clueswhen untoward incidents occur. Many illegal activities including sand transportation occur in this area.
A CCTV camera that was fixed at Nettilapadavu-Kedambady area stopped working few months after its inauguration. It is still not repaired. The public is urging for the repair of these cameras soon. Now PCR vehicles are patrolling in these areas.
Bantwal areas also under scanner
The Kerala connecting areas of Bantwal like Polali, Farangipet, Manihalla and other areas are under strict police vigil and checking is in progress in the nearby villages of Manchi, and Salethur also. Police personnel including senior police officials are doing the rounds to ensure piece in the region.
