Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 2: A holiday was declared for Anganwadi, schools and colleges of Sullia and Kadaba taluks on Tuesday August 2 as heavy rains are lashing since Monday night.
Road connectivity is lost in many areas of both taluks due to heavy rains. People are facing inconvenience due to inundation of roads. Water gushed into many houses also.
The intensity of rain is reduced on the morning of Tuesday and roads are visible for pedestrians and vehicles to traverse. However, Yenekal area is still receiving heavy downpour and the road connectivity is lost as per reports.
Water gushed into Kukke Subramanya temple due to heavy rains in Subramanya vicinity. DC Dr Rajendra K V is camping in Subramanya and overseeing the rescue operations. Emergency relief work is taken with the help of AC and tahsildar and other personnel.
NDRF team has already arrived to Subramanya and begun the emergency relief work. SDRF team went to Kollamogaru and later to Subramanya. Additional DC Krishnamurthy said that fire service teams of Puttur and Sullia are working from the night of Monday at Kollamogaru and Subramanya areas affected by flood.
Schools of Byndoor and Kundapur were also given holiday on Tuesday.
Due to the torrential rains in this region, Kundapur assistant commissioner declared holiday for schools in the two taluks.
Heavy rains have caused flood like situation in many parts of the Kundapur and Byndoor taluk. The assistant commissioner and other government officials visited the flood-affected areas.
