Udupi, Aug 2: A huge water tank that was situated besides Herga agricultural cooperative society at Parkala near here collapsed and fell on the land of Parkala Education society.
The tank, which has a capacity of holding 50,000 litres of water, was in a dilapidated condition since long time. The road by the side of the tank is a crowded one with people of 80 Badagubettu moving around. In addition, there was an Anganwadi functioning on the land of Parkala education society earlier. But now it is closed. Hence, the area is deserted now. That is why no injuries are reported.
Social workers Ganeshraj Saralebettu and Rajesh Prabhu Parkala have urged the city municipality officials to demolish and remove similar water tanks that are not used and quite old and dilapidated to prevent any mishap and loss of life or damage to other properties.
