Udupi, Aug 2: The Children Protection Unit, Manipal has rescued a nine-month-old female baby illegally adopted by a Gangolli couple.

Mahesh Devadiga, the protection officer of the unit who received a telephone call on July 25 about the illegal adoption, visited the residence of Sridhar and Rajeshwari couple on July 26. He came to know that the couple had brought the child from Sirsi, Uttar Kannada on July 16 without any documents.

The couple could not tell from whom they obtained the child.

The child has been handed over to the Krishnanugraha Adoption Centre at Santhekatte here for rehabilitation on verbal request from the member of the Child Welfare Committee. As the couple which was keeping the child in their custody could not provide suitable documents, Mahesh Devadiga has sought suitable legal action in this connection.

A police complaint under registration No. 68/2022 section 80 JJ Act is registered at Gangolli police station in this connection.
