Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Aug 8: Of late, Foot and Mouth disease is seen in children in the state. In 8 out of 10 skin related cases reported in private and government hospitals in the state among children Foot and Mouth disease is detected.

Compared to the previous two years, this infection has seen a 40% rise in children this year. It is said that inclement weather or the reduction in the immunity in children is the reason for this disease.

There is normal treatment for this disease. It takes around seven to 10 days for cure. There is vast difference between the water boils that erupt on the body in case of Monkey Pox and Foot and mouth diseases. Doctors say that there is no need for parent to panic.

Infected child will have fever, throat pain, tiredness, boils in mouth and tongue and water filled boils on hands, legs and back. Coxsackievirus, which is not dangerous, is seen in the intestine of the affected patient. This gets spread to others through cough, sneeze, faeces, water, toys and touch of infected person.

Dr Jnaneshwara, senior skin specialist, Bowring Hospital, says, “Foot and Mouth disease is on rise among children at present. Nearly five to 10 cases are reported every day. This is contagious. So precautions should be taken. Symptoms of Monkeypox and Foot and Mouth disease vary. There is no need for parents to panic.”
