Mangaluru, Aug 19: Congress, CPI, CPI (M), JD(S), Dakshina Kannada District Muslim Federation, dalit organisations, and other like-minded minded organisations on Friday, August 19 handed over a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V urging him to take proper measures to end the communal violence in the district, provide equal justices to slain victims of recent communal violence and to protect the constitutional rights.
The leaders of various political parties and organisations urged the deputy commissioner to provide equal compensation to the families of the slain youth in the recent communal murder that took place in the Dakshina Kannada police and Mangaluru Police Commessionarate limits and protect the constitutional rights.
Excepting for the BJP, several like-minded political parties, and organisations were part of the all-party delegation.
Speaking to the deputy commissioner, former minister Ramanath Rai said, "To end the communal tension in the district, the police department should book the conspirators and plotters responsible for communal disharmony in the society and should send them behind bars."
"Without any discrimination, the government should treat everyone equally. Stringent action should be taken against those who give provocative communal hate speeches," Rai added.
"The government should give equal compensation to all the three victims who lost their lives in communal violence. The administration should also hand over the death of the Fazil case to the NIA. And a detailed probe is essential in Fazil's murder. As Praveen's murder is booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the same should be booked in Fazil's case," said DYFI state president Munir Katipalla.
He also alleged by imposing lockdown-type restrictions people were fixed to the problem. Though the peace committee meeting was organised political parties were kept out and even the political representatives were absent from the peace meeting conducted by the district administration. He said even Fazil's murder should be booked under the UAPA Act.
“Though a flex with Nathuram Godse’s photo was been installed and a complaint had been filed in the morning it was removed in the evening. Such things will create tension in society,” he said. He alleged that no action was taken against the person who had put up the banner with his own photo.
Congress leaders, MLCs Manjunath Bhandary, Harish Kumar, Abayachandra Jain, former MLA Moideen Bhava, Shashidhar Hegde, Sahul Hameed, JD(S) leader Sushil Norohanha, Aksith Suvarana, delegation secretary K Yadav Shetty and others were present.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V after listening to the opinions of leaders, DC said, " District administration is the face of the government. It works as per the government. In protecting the interest of the public, the administration has worked constitutionally."
“As the family members of Masood visited the office and had given their appeal, the administration did not visit his residence. When the Chief Minister arrived at Nettaru’s house, I had to join the Chief Minister. Family members of Masood appealed for the release of compensation from the government. We will accept the appeal even from Fazil's family and will do the needful,” he said.
As per the intelligence inputs, the district administration has imposed restrictions in the district to avoid any untoward incidents. It was not the intention to create inconvenience to the public. But, it was done as per the authentic information from the intelligence, he added.
On the installation of the banner, the DC said, "Regarding provocative banners in the district, a meeting has been convened with police and revenue department officials. It has asked them to look into such provocative banners and do the needful, " he said.
