Mangaluru, Aug 25: The Konkani Sangh of Milagres College celebrated the Konkani ‘Manyata Divas -2022’ at its auditorium on Thursday, August 25. Fr Uday Fernandes, principal, Milagres Central School, Praveen Tauro, Marketing Manager, Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd, Stany Bela, writer and director were the chief guests of the event. Fr Michael Santhumayor, principal, Milagres College presided over the programme.
In his speech, Fr Uday Fernandes said, “Konkani is our identity because it is our mother tongue. After it was included in the 8th schedule of our constitution, it became an official language. We have to be proud of our language and put efforts to promote it on various platforms.,”
Applauding the management of Milagres College Praveen Tauro said, "Milagres college always supports unity in diversity. The management took special interest to retain the Konkani Sangh for the students who are hailing from the community. When I was a student, there were no such associations in our school. I got fined for speaking Konkani in school. But still I didn't forget my mother tongue. It is my request to all the students to love your mother tongue. Promote it as well as you can. Don't be ashamed to converse in Konkani when you get a friend of the same language. I congratulate all Konkani Sangh members for organizing such a meaningful event.
In his speech Stany Bela said, “I am hailing from a Malayalam speaking state and still I never forgot my mother tongue Konkani. In my childhood I started my writings and speeches in Konkani only and still I am giving priority to my mother tongue. I appreciate the Konkani Sangh of Milagres college for its various Konkani activities throughout the year."
In his presidential speech, Fr Michael said, “Forgetting the mother tongue and our own mother is one and the same. We do not get the feel of our soil while speaking other languages. Konkani is the language of the Konkan region of three major communities. I appreciate the Konkani Sangh of our college for organizing this day.”
Jostan V D Souza, president of Konkani Sangh, Tressy Clita Pinto and Pramila D'Souza, organisers were present on the dais.
After the stage programme, cultural competitions were held.
