Mangalore, Apr 16: Yoga exponent Baba Ramdev’s Yoga session attracted more than 5, 000 Yoga enthusiasts at the Nehru Maidan in city on Saturday April 16. From 5.00 am to 7.30 am Baba Ramdev taught different postures (asanas) and advised the participants that continual practice of these would help keep the mind and body fit.

Yoga enthusiasts started congregating at the venue as early as 4.30 am in order to take prime positions in front of the stage on which Baba Ramdev performed yoga. Alva's Education Foundation chairman Dr Mohan Alva, city advocate P P Hegde and Bunts leader Ajith Kumar Malady were present at the inaugural of the session. Police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh and deputy commissioner Subodh Yadav among others took part in the yoga session too.

Security arrangements were beefed up in the locality as a precautionary step.

Later speaking to media persons Baba Ramdev said that Bharath Swabhiman Yatra is being initiated with the intention of making the country healthier, corruption free and financially stable and credible. He strongly demanded for the Jan Lokpal Bill that is meant to punish the corrupt Government officials.

The promotion of Yoga is also a part of the yatra. But he is also looking into bringing back money worth Rs 300 lac crore which is known to be amassed in foreign banks.

"It is a well-known fact that India ranked topmost in the world in terms of tradition and culture. Health and wealth of the country has now deteriorated with unethical practices, increasing corruption and unhealthy practices on the rise. The yatra is aiming to eradicate the sociopolitical problems of our country, he said.

Do below workers need Yoga. Never.
    1) There is no good exercise than running daily for half an hour.
    2) Swimming will give complete exercise.
    3) Working in the field/Agriculture field will give complete physical exercise. Plucking coconut will have good exercise. (work is also accomplished physique also will be fit & in the evening have any kind of food & everything will digest. No indigestion

The Yoga/exercise is ok for city life people office workers and for obesity people.

In the modern world people became lethargic and docile by watching t.v's sitting long hours in the internet.

Yoga, which means "union" or "harmony," is both a philosophical system and a science whose goal is the attainment of self awareness. With its beginnings enshrouded in the prehistory of India, evidence of yoga practices has been found in the Indus Valley civilization of 3,000-4,000 B.C.E. Although ancient, yoga is not outdated. It has value for the modern world. yoga offers us the opportunity to deepen our self understanding through physical movement, breathing and meditation.

Yoga Refers to traditional physical, mental, and spiritual disciplines, originating in India, whose goal is the attainment of a state of perfect spiritual insight and tranquility. The word is associated with meditative practices in Hinduism

Major branches of yoga in Hindu philosophy include Rāja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Hatha Yoga. Yoga based on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, comprises one of the six main Hindu schools of philosophy (darshanas), together with Kapila's Samkhya, Gautama's Nyaya, Kanada's Vaisheshika, Jaimini's Purva Mimamsa, and Badarayana's Uttara Mimamsa or Vedanta. Many other Hindu texts discuss aspects of yoga, including the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, the Shiva Samhita and various Tantras.

Yoga is a vast science, an infinite journey that takes you more and more towards the unknown. Towards the state of supreme bliss. But its beauty lies in the fact that it starts with very small steps than anyone can take.”

“Yoga means togetherness of awareness and body. It is a practical science aiming at the realization of the ultimate – moksha. The practice of yoga should ideally be commenced in early childhood when the body is by nature loose and flexible. Beginning early brings truth to the old adage “prevention is better than cure”. Though yoga does help in treatment of diseases, this is not its only goal.

Ancient masters like Patanjali have made mankind aware of the fact that Yoga is a science which is practical and usable with guaranteed scope of growth at all levels of human existence – physical, mental, emotional, physiological and spiritual. Its sole principle is to progress from a state of doing to the state of non-doing.

The ancient art of yoga says that an empty mind is God’s workshop. With the passage of time, medical science has made tremendous progress. So have metaphysics, physics, chemistry, human physiology and sports medicine. Yoga, which is a practical science, however, has fallen into the hands of those who don’t really understand its depth and use it for superficial purposes such as figure correction, weight loss and stress management.

Yoga-the very word radiates peace and tranquility. The word Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word 'Yuj' which essentially means to join or unite. The union referred to is that of the individual self uniting with Cosmic Consciousness or the Universal Spirit. Yoga is a means to achieving this goal. Born in India, almost 26,000 years ago, Yoga is believed to have evolved during the period of the ‘Sat Yuga’, also called the Golden age. This period became known as a time of everlasting peace and abundant blessings, filled with seekers of the Eternal Truth. That is why, probably, even today we associate yoga with sages and hermits.

If you go any part of world and achieve anything.. at last for spiritual life..one or another way..bounds to follow indian culture..it's nothing but eternal....Jai Ho..

I feel very strange. 23 years back when I was college student I went to KMC Manipal to learn yoga. It took me 15 days to learn only few asans and pranayamas. If I am not wrong Dr. Krishna Bhat , now HOD/Dept of Yogic Science @ Mangala Gangotri was heading yoga dept at KMC then. Ganapathi Jois Sir was my teacher. Yoga is a science. It is not aerobics or gymnastics. It will give results only when it is learned under the guidance of properly trained teacher. By conducting instant sessions like this I wonder whether yoga guru Ram Dev Baba is trying to popularise yoga or using yoga as a tool for his hidden agenda.Former is okay but latter is unfair.
