Udupi, Sep 8: A 29-year-old woman died in a private hospital in Udupi on Wednesday, September 7 in the morning after efforts to treat her failed.
Vidya had fallen in love with Yatin Raj and was happily married to him before he forced her to take loans and started constantly harassing her for more money. On September 1, the Yatin fed Vidya with poison at their house in Uchchila Mullagudde and consumed a small quantity of it himself and was admitted to a private hospital in Udupi.
Yatin Raj and his parents - mother Geetha and father Raghu, brother Yakshit were also constantly harassing Vidya to take loans.
A murder case has been registered against all the members at the Padubidri police station.
In 2017, Vidya and Yatin Raj who were in love got married and started living together in Yatin Raj's house at Mullagudde. She was constantly being harassed for money and was physically abused and beaten up. Yatin Raj did not have a proper job. He was getting his wife to apply for loans and used to spend that money. Yatin had sold off all the gold ornaments that were given by Vidya's parents at the time of their marriage. He was harassing Vidya to take more loans, the police complaint given by elder sister Leelavathi says.
Unable to bear the torture meted out to her, Vidya and her husband had moved into a rented house in Uchchila and about a month later, to another house near the Kaup light house. But, the husband had not changed his ways as he was still torturing her for more money. It is believed that he killed his wife so that he would not be troubled or harassed for the money that his wife had borrowed and that it would be treated as paid.
In her complaint, Leelavathi says Yatin Raj had fed his wife with poison and consumed a little bit of it to fake a suicide attempt.
The accused Yatin Raj is undergoing treatment in the ICU of a private hospital in Udupi. Police are investigating.
