Udupi: Bajrang Dal attack on prayer house - 19 arrested get interim bail

Udupi, Mar 9: In connection to the alleged attack by Bajrang Dal on a prayer house at Moodubelle here on the night of Friday March 8, it has now been confirmed that six persons were injured in the attack, and that they have been admitted to hospitals.
Contrary to intial reports, Roshan, a member of Bible Society, was not among those admitted to hospital, but his mother Emilia Lobo, Surya (38) from Karkala, Shantaram, Prem Mendonca (16) and Savio Johnson, a second year student of engineering have been admitted to Ajjarkad hospital. Another injured, identified as Ramesh has been admitted to KMC hospital with serious injuries.
As many as 19 persons said to be belonging to Bajrang Dal have been arrested. They are Ritesh Shetty (22), resident of Mavina Katte, Nandalike, Karkala, Vishwanath Acharya (22) and Raghavendra Achari (25) of Mattar Janata Colony, Shirva, Anand (22) of Shirva Koppa, Ramesh Shetty (24) of Mattar Janata Colony, Shirva, Suraj Shetty (29) of Mattar Anugraha House, Shirva, Umesh Achari (25) of Sooda, Karkala, Sukesh Poojary (23) of Sooda, Karkala, Dayananda Poojary (30) of Makkeri Bailu, Shirva, Satish (22) of Mattar Jananta Colony, Shirva, Umesh Naik (36) of Sooda, Karkala, Jayaprakash (27) of Mattar Shirva, Prakash Kotian (28) of Shirva, Dilip Kumar (21) of Mattar Janata Colony, Shirva, Ranjith Kumar (21), Anil Kumar Poojary (28), Sandeep Poojary (22) and Suresh Poojary (24) of Mattar, Shirva, and Sadashiva Kulal (36) of Nadibettu, Shirva.
Speaking to media persons, IGP (western range) Pratap Reddy said that immediate action will be taken in the matter. "We are taking this incident seriously. Already around 10 persons have been arrested and the rest will be caught soon. Such kinds of incidents will not be tolerated," he said.
"So far we have not received any complaint from anyone regarding conversion taking place here," he added.
SP Dr Boralingaiah also assured quick action in the case and said that FIR has already been registered against the arrested people. A clear picture will emerge only after further investigations, he added.
Roshan said that around 6 to 8 people were in the prayer house when a group barged in all of a sudden and started assaulting and kicking them. "They did not even care to see who they were attacking," he added.
Roshan took a few mobile clippings on his phone and also informed the SP and Shirva police, who rushed to the spot.
"This prayer house has been in existence from 12 years. Bajrang Dal has given us warnings before but never attacked. Eight years ago they had attempted to attack but timely action by the police had folied their plan," said Roshan, claiming that the group assaulated them this time for around 45 minutes.
He expressed satisfaction over the police action.
The accused were produced in the II JMFC court the same day and released on interim bail. The hearing for the regular bail will be on Monday March 11.

Udupi: Alleged conversion - Bajrang Dal assaults man at Moodubelle

Udupi, Mar 9: In yet another case of alleged conversion, a man from Moodubelle here was reportedly attacked by activists of Bajrang Dal on Friday March 8 night.
Roshan, a member of Bible Society of India was allegedly attacked at around 10 pm.
Bajrang Dal members have already lodged a complaint with Shirva police station, accusing Roshan of indulging in conversion.
As per the complaint, he allegedly converted people at his residence which is also a prayer house.
However, before police could arrive at the spot, Bajrang Dal members allegedly attacked Roshan during a prayer service and he was later taken to hospital.
Sources said that around 10 persons have been arrested already.
Superintendent of police Dr Boralingaiah and other higher officials including IGP (western range) visited the spot.
