Mangaluru: Video showing on Whatsapp sucking of employee by jet engine was fake

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 30: Since the last some days, a video showing a person walking from in front of an aircraft at an airport getting sucked into the engine by the force of the suction of the jet engine of the aeroplane is doing the rounds in social websites including Facebook and Whatsapp. The video, which shows a person instantly vanishing due to the force of suction and turning into a fireball, is also accompanied by warning against callousness when going past aircraft from close quarters.

However, a verification of facts has now revealed that this video was fake. This is an example about misuse of social websites to spread misinformation. The video, which claimed to have been shot in an airport in the Gulf region, initially made several rounds. Thereafter, information spread that the person who died in the accident was a newly recruited employee of the airport from coastal Karnataka. Finally, there were claims that the victim was from Farangipet Ammemar in Pudu village, Bantwal taluk, which also brought out address and voter card details. A couple of elctronic media picked the threads of this information and transmitted the news.

Those who hit the trail of these pieces of information, found that the person whose photo was published thereof was Samshuddin living near Bantwal. His relatives confirmed that he is hale and healthy, and that he works in a shop at Farangipet. The concerned also found that such accidents can be least expected in advanced airports, and some mischief mongers had joined together video and information to mislead people into believing that the information was true.

It is gathered that authorities from the country where the above tragedy supposedly took place have clarified that no such accident has occurred in their country. This news could be verified and found to be false without much delay, as the person shown therein could be easily identified. The way in which social media is being manipulated and misused by people who perhaps want to get some entertainment out of it deserves severe condemnation.

Yes. The engines are capable of sucking in anything whether live or lifeless with great power. but uptil a certain distance. The hazard areas (The danger areas )are clearly marked on the engine itself. Though the clipping is said to be a fake, it could be real. One moment you are there and the next it's just mincemeat. Unless a person is suicidal no employee working on the tarmac goes that close to a running jet engine. It is extremely dangerous.

This was back in Jan. of 2006. The dude was 64 and an experienced mechanic. He was crouched on the outboard side of the engine during a test run-up to verify an oil leak (there were two other techs, one on the inboard side the other under the engine), and for reasons only he knew, stood up and walked into the hazard zone. Only one of the 114 passengers actually saw the guy get sucked in.

It is very unfortunate that Public TV has aired such a fake report. Ranganath being a sensible Journalist should come out with an apology and prove to the people who really believe that he is a honest journalist. Hope people will stop forwarding what ever message they receive with out verifying. The users of Public media have internet on their hand sets or computers. It is just a few minutes they have to spare to know the authenticity of the messages they get.

Unfortunate that social media is utilized to spread wrong information. One of the Kannada news channel virtually killed shamsuddeen even by showing his identity card. I think the channel should apologize for the fake news and the concerned reporter must be charged for this defamation of an innocent individual.

    Mechanic sucked into jet engine

Fatal accident occurred as aircraft prepared to fly to Houston

    Monday, January 16, 2006 Posted: 2255 GMT (0655 HKT)

(CNN) A mechanic standing near a Boeing 737 at El Paso International Airport in Texas was sucked into one of the engines and killed Monday, officials said.
Continental Airlines Flight 1515 was preparing to take off for Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston when "a maintenance-related engine run-up of the right-hand engine" was carried out, said Roland Herwig, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration's southwest region in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
"Someone on the ground was sucked into the engine," he said.
In a written statement, Continental Chairman and CEO Larry Kellner said the person killed was a mechanic who worked for one of the airline's suppliers.
"My fellow coworkers and I extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of the mechanic involved in this tragic event," Kellner said.

Yes, video is fake but photo on right is indeed real. We were shown the other photos related to that accident in Airport Security course being conducted for the airline I worked with a few years ago. Quite disturbing and sickly but very effected in emphasising airside safety operations.
