Kundapur: Rajyotsava awardee Airodi Rama Ganiga passes away

Kundapur, Oct 21: Karnataka Rajyotsava awardee, Yakshagana artiste, retired teacher Airodi Rama Ganiga (98), passed away in a private hospital in Koteshwara on Thursday late night, October 20 after brief illness.

He had travelled to various places as a Yakshagana artiste for 13 years before working as a teacher for three decades. He introduced Yakshagana puppetry to the stage.

The union government's department of culture has titled him as 'Guru'. He received several awards during his career.

He has left behind his wife, two sons one of whom is Gopalakrishna, retired bank officer and Raviraj Kumbhashi an LIC officer and three daughters.
