Kundapur, Sep 16: A farewell was held for B B Nikam, who earned public appreciation during his six-year tenure as the divisional manager of Karwar railway division and was recently promoted and transferred to Mumbai. The event was organized by the Kundapur Railway Passengers' Welfare Committee in association with Lions Club, Hangaluru, and the farewell was conducted through Kundapur MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi.
B B Nikam's efforts to bring Konkan Railway closer to the public and the steps he took to reduce the gap between the public and the railway corporation were remembered. His contributions towards the development of Kundapur station, including high-mast lighting, improvements in the ticketing system, upgrades to the Panchaganga train, the introduction of new Mysuru trains, and the establishment of new halts and a prepaid counter, were highlighted.
On the same occasion, MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi inaugurated the planned flooring, roofing, and toilet design at Kundapur station, a project costing over Rs 40 lakh, sponsored by Lions Club, Hangaluru. Kodgi praised the Lions Club members for this generous contribution, which benefits the public.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Kodgi said that it is rare for public farewells to be held for railway officials, and such honors are reserved only for officials who have earned the love and trust of the people.
Ganesh Puthran, president of the Kundapur Railway Passengers' Welfare Committee, expressed hope that B B Nikam, in his higher role, would continue to extend greater support to the coastal region. Lions Club Zone Chairman Balakrishna Shetty, speaking on behalf of the Lions Club, expressed happiness for having had the opportunity to undertake such a noble public service project.
Ganesh Puthran welcomed and presented the proposal. The event was compered by committee coordinator Vivek Nayak, while technical advisor Gautam Shetty introduced B B Nikam to the gathering. Committee secretary Praveen T offered the vote of thanks.
Lions Club Hangaluru president Rowan D'Costa, joint secretary Ramesh Shetty, treasurer Puneet, and members of Lions Club Hangaluru, Kundapur Amrithadhara, Koteshwara, Clean Kundapur Project, Red Cross, and other organizations were present.
