Mangaluru, Jun 30: The health condition of Diksha, who was seriously injured in the stabbing incident that took place at Bagambila of Deralakatte near here, continues to be precarious. She is being treated by specialist doctors in a hospital.
Accused Sushanth is also being treated under police security. He is said to be recovering. Police suspect that love failure is the reason for this barbaric act by Sushanth.
Diksha (20), who is residing and studying MBA in a private college in Karkala had arrived to her home at Deralakatte on the evening of Friday, June 28 and was proceeding towards her home after getting down from the bus near the Kshema Hospital. Sushanth, who was waiting for her, followed her in scooter and stabbed her 12 times after blocking her way and also tried to kill himself by slitting his throat repeatedly with the same knife. The locals and ambulance personnel got both of them admitted to the hospital later.

It is alleged that Sushanth is the friend of rowdy sheeter Japan Manga alias Rajesh. Sushanth was the one who took Japan Manga, on his bike after the latter had a fight with Subhash Padil and his gang, who were accused in the homestay attack, in the court premises of Mangaluru. Sushanth was also arrested later and was sent to prison. A rowdy sheeter file was also opened against Sushanth in the Bunder police station. It is said that after this incident, Diksha maintained distance from him and Sushanth was harassing her for the same.
Students of Nitte University, relatives of Diksha and locals donated their blood to Diksha. She has had surgery and is being monitored continuously in the ICU by a team of specialist doctors of various branches of medicine.
Sushanth used to go to college and schools to teach break dance and had done choreography for one of the dances of Diksha. After this, it is said, both of them became friends. However, after Diksha left for Karkala in order to pursue her post-graduate studies, there was some sort of strain in their relationship. A few months ago, Sushanth, who had gone to Karkala with his friend, had tried to make Diksha sit in his car forcefully. A case in this regard was filed in the Karkala police station. Police had taken a written undertaking from Sushanth in this regard in front of his parents. It is said that Sushanth planned to kill Diksha because of this incident.
Sushanth had given clues about his intention to kill Diksha in his WhatsApp status. He had changed his status in the WhatsApp at 12.09 pm on the fateful day and posted "Love you Deechu...Miss You Baba...Love you lot..." and had posted the photos in which both he and Diksha were together. Then he smoked ganja and was waiting for Diksha's arrival in the Kshema Hospital bus stand. Diksha, who was unaware of his presence walked straight towards her home after getting down from the bus and Sushanth followed her in scooter and stabbed her repeatedly.
Dr Naresh Rai, who is treating Diksha said, "Diksha has got deep wounds due to repeated stabbing. With the help of specialist team of doctors surgeries were done on time. The next 48 to 72 hours are crucial. Doctors are monitoring her 24 hours of the day."
Giving details of the incident, Hanumantharaya, DCP, Mangaluru commissionerate said, "A rowdy sheeter case was already put long back on Sushanth in the Bunder police station with respect to the assault incident that took place in the court premises. The inquiry of the same is still in progress. In addition, a case was filed in Karkala police station earlier with regards to the girl student."
