Mangaluru, Sep 10: The joyous celebration of the Nativity of mother Mary began with blessing of new corn and offering of flowers by children.
This was followed by a eucharistic celebration. Fr Shaun Rodrigues, assistant parish priest presided over the eucharist and Fr Benjamin Pinto, the parish priest preached on the importance of the day. He focused on mother Mary’s 'Yes' to the divine plan, the joy of being part of the family, gratitude toward God and farmers for the new corn and respecting the girl child.
Towards the end of the mass, as a parish family everyone drank 'novem' while the gurkars distributed sheaves of blessed new paddy to the heads of the family. Women association conducted the liturgy. Children sang in their melodious voices which added beauty to the day’s celebration. Finally, sugarcane was distributed to all by ICYM members.
