Mangaluru, Jul 3: A recent drug bust in Mangaluru has highlighted the power of community vigilance, with city police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy crediting a single parent's complaint for helping prevent the spread of narcotics among nearly 200 individuals.

"Two days ago, a concerned couple approached us with a complaint about their son’s addiction to drugs. Based on this, a special police team was formed to investigate the matter in detail," said the commissioner.

The investigation led to the arrest of five persons who were found attempting to sell ganja in small packets. Police also seized around 6 kilograms of ganja from their possession. The accused were reportedly targeting students and working professionals.

“When one parent came forward, we were able to stop drugs from reaching 200 people. If 10 such complaints are received, we can stop it for 2,000. And if 100 citizens report such cases with credible information, we can completely eliminate the drug menace from Mangaluru,” the commissioner stated.

He further appealed to the public to cooperate with the police in tackling the drug problem. “Those addicted to drugs will be treated as victims and rehabilitated. But those involved in the supply and sale of drugs will face strict legal action under relevant laws,” he said.

Drug menace must be completely wiped out. It’s not just the police’s job — it’s every citizen’s responsibility to report illegal activity.
