Mangaluru: Dubai passenger admitted into Wenlock with suspected coronavirus symptoms

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Mar 9: Deadly coronavirus that has gripped the world like an epidemic has already claimed thousands of lives. After a passenger who arrived at the airport here on Sunday March 8 exhibited symptoms of coronavirus infection, he was admitted into the district Wenlock Hospital here.

The health officials have refused to divulge the name and other details of the person admitted into the hospital as above.

The health department officials have been screening all the passengers arriving at the airport. As they observed that the said passenger who came from Dubai displayed symptoms of fever, they reportedly decided to admit him into the hospital where he has been kept in the special isolated ward.

Giving details to the media persons, Dakshina Kannada district health officer Sikandar Pasha, said that the passenger was diagnosed with fever on his arrival at the airport. During the check conducted at Dubai airport at the time of departure, he did not have fever, it is said. He said that it was decided as a measure of abundant precaution, to admit him in the special ward set up at the Wenlock Hospital.

"We have collected throat swab samples of the passenger and they have been dispatched to Bangalore Medical College Hospital for testing. We expect to receive the report on Monday. If the report is negative, we will discharge the passenger after a thorough check-up," he stated.

There have been allegations that there were no ambulances at the airport to take the passenger suspected of infection to Wenlock Hospital. Later, it is said, the ambulance of the said hospital was sent to the airport to pick the passenger.

Director of the airport here, V V Rao, said that as per the directions of the Directorate of Civil Aviation, health officials have been checking the health condition of all the passengers arriving at the airport and this checking is mandatory for all the passengers.

Why there is no security to keep virus suspected person in hospital safely? Why this Wenlock Hospital is so much dirty? Not clean. Not painted since so many years? Why? Why Health Minister of Karnataka and India not checking and taking action? Safety of people must be the responsibility of governments!!

    @Anwar,
no vaccine has provided foolproof protection as viruses mutate & the old one proves useless.
In US flu vaccines are made almost compulsory & those who got vaccinated got flu while those who didn't never got any attacks why?
Read my replies again only our immune system can defeat a virus, as there are 320000 viruses out of which only 219 are known to humans & nobody can get all those vaccines if produced every year or 5 year gap.
Vacs are a few decade old story while humans survived without them for thousands of years how?
There comes Ayurveda or Immune boosting herbs, fruits & vegetables provided by nature which are known to science but are discarded as they don't make money as they can't patent them.
It's a big story & can't be discussed here in details.

I recall when plague hit India in 1990s, how people were escaping from their isolated hospital wards. I had expected such things to happen now too as we have many irresponsible people around. China, despite its size and population much bigger than India, should be appreciated for its iron-fist to prevent, control and minimize the disease. God forbid, it the disease had originated in India, by now millions of our people would have been infected and a huge number of casualties would have happened. Let’s just hope and pray our government would succeed in controlling the disease and we, the citizens of India, are more responsible towards our duties.

Locals have informed me that Wedlock hospital, is no better than a mortuary !!!!! In Mumbai all government and Municipal hospitals are run by dedicated professionals. Frightening to imagine the carrier of this fatal disease, transmitting to numerous
healthy, unsuspecting citizens of Dakshin Kannada district !!!!!!

yes, the rate is less than 2%, while flu cases too have the same mortality rate in US.
ADR= Adverse Drug reaction kills more people than this virus
Accidents kill 15000 people in a month in US.
Worry we do about media projection which is fed by CDC & WHO, who will be the ultimate beneficiary, manufacturers of test kits, sanitiser, masks & later on vaccine stand to gain by creating panic & fear.
Improve your immune system & get some sunshine with some exercises & be jovial to beat any diseases.

eventhough mortality rate is low, the virus can infect very easily..patients have to be admitted for medication..once large population infected/admitted it will stress already collapsing Health care system..Hospitals/Doctors/nurses may not be availble for treatement for other deceases also..thats why prevention is very necessary..

No medication is available for any viral infections, help our immune system to combat any of them. within 3 days our body overwhelms the invading virus.
Read my comment again, only immune compromised with existing ailments are at risk.
Does anybody gets admitted to hospitals these days for any viral fever caused by common cold or flu?
Panic is created every year with new names by WHO, the reason I have mentioned, why we should follow the western medicine promoting organizations while our own Ayurveda has shown the amazing ability to promote healing property of our own immune system?

IN FUTURE ANYONE WHO IS HAVING SIGNS OF IT, IMMEDIATELY SHOULD UNDERGO A THOROUGH CHECKUP THUS SAVING OTHERS FROM GETTING IT. PURPOSELY IGNORING AND PUTTING OTHERS AT RISK WITH THIS TYPE OF DISEASE IS A GREAT SIN

Suspected? He had a fever. There are many illnesses which exhibit fever ( flu, cold, malaria, dengue fever, liver disease, kidney disease, etc). It is not confirmed yet that he tested positive and it will take some time for test results to be returned. For the moment let us wait for the test results, not panic and trust our health officials.
