Kundapur: High waves cause boat to capsize, four fishermen go missing

Kundapur, Aug 16: Four fishermen went missing after a fishing boat capsized due to the high waves herein Koderi, Kirimanjeshwara. The boat is identified under the name 'Sagarashri'. As per sources, the boat had 11 fishermen on board. Four are reported to be missing. Meanwhile, other fishermen have been rescued.

The missing are identified as Shekhar (39), Naga (55), Lakshman (34) and Manjunath K (40).

The boat is said to have hit a rock causing it to lose control due to the high tides.

Taking cognisance of the incident, Byndoor MLA B M Sukumar Shetty and former MLA Gopal Poojary visited the spot.

    why they not keeping life jackets ready..if weather is bad..they must wear during trip...very sad...when we learn? no value for human life? our safety officers sitting at home n enjyoing life..st least they shud check all rules and regulations strictly followed

    Praveen, this is not safety officer's fault. Already fishermen were instructed not to venture into the sea. It's raining heavily too.....why we people neglect every rules and regulations put forward by the administration? When there's no value is given to the order, this is what going to happen. Same negligence happening in corona also. People just go out without maintaining social distance. Only few follow strictly.... May the departed souls rest in peace....

    High time govt provide life vests to all fishermen or atleast subsidize so that owners provide for their boatmen it will workout instead of compensation.
