Udupi, Dec 15: Social activist Alwyn Andrade Pandeshwar led by a team on Monday, December 14 handed over a memorandum to DC G Jagadeesha urging him to take immediate action against those who are poisoning the fishes.

On receiving the memo, the DC assured that he will call upon concerned authorities to take appropriate action against the concerned immediately.

Poisoning of fish is a serious offence, the team, therefore, requested the deputy commissioner to look into the matter on priority.

Advocate Choradi Krishnaraj Shetty, Vinay Kumar Kabyadi and Vasant Giliyar of team Abhimatha were present.

Formalin is a preservative applied on the body of fish to prevent it from decay. However, experts are of the opinion that such a chemical cannot be used for the preservation of fish which is meant for consumption. As per studies, formalin has poisonous content that can cause cancer.
