Udupi, Dec 15: City based advocate, Sukumar Shetty, who is a resident of Kota Kavadi in the district, has been accused of raping a girl after promising to marry her. A case containing this allegation has been registered in the women's police station here.
As soon as the case was registered, the accused advocate has absconded. A lady aged 25, who happens to be the sister of the lawyer's friend and living in the same village, had got acquainted with him a few years back. It is said that by promising to marry her, the lawyer had developed physical contact with the lady several times during the last five years.

The lady had become pregnant and got admitted into hospital. When the topic of marriage was raised with Sukumar Shetty, he reportedly declined to keep his word, assaulted the lady, and duped the girl by refusing to marry her, the complainant stated.
The officials of the women's police station said that they have undertaken investigation and effort to arrest the accused is continuing.
