Mumbai, Apr 22: For over 21 years, the Way of the Cross has been enacted live on the streets of Mumbai, and on Friday April 22 the occasion was commemorated at Sacred Heart Church, Santa Cruz here.

For two decades, on every Good Friday without fail, the Stations of the Cross has been enacted live as a musical play on the streets of Khar, Santa Cruz (East and West), Vakola Kalina and Kurla. Thousands of Christians join in the walking pilgrimage on this day of fast, prayer, penance and abstinence.

Thousands of kilowatts of sound and special effects are effectively deployed to bring the arrest, suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, to life.

The dramatic representation aims to vividly portray the happenings at Calvary, over 2,000 years ago, by enacting 15 songs on the streets. The four-hour programme is a rich spiritual experience for at least 30,000 of those who attend,  witnessed by many thousand more. The 15 stations of the cross, highlight scenes like The Agony in the Garden and Jesus is before Pilot’s Court, Jesus Meets His Mother, Simon, Veronica and Weeping Women, The 3 Falls, Stripping, Crucifixion, Laying in the Tomb and Resurrection.

CROSS and CSF organised six hours of the Way of the Cross ceremony on Friday April 22. CROSS founder president Joseph Dias was main organizer of the ceremony. At 10.30 am the procession began from Sacred Heart Church, Khar (W) and ended at 4.30 pm at Santa Cruz (E).

I was fortunate to participate in a Live way of the Cross at St. Ignatius Church, Parel, Bombay. It was a great experience and had a great impact on the life of people that many elderly people feel sorry for their sins and cry bitterly.

Lord our God promised to our ancestors of sending a Saviour to this world to bring glory and salvation to humankind. In the Old Testament Jesus birth, life, teachings ,death and resurrection is predicted. That we refer as written in the scriptures.

New Testament gives the full History of Jesus' life. Written about His News of coming to this earth, His birth, teachings, miracles, Death, resurrection, and 2nd time coming to this world.

Sins apart us from God. Jesus chose to die on the Cross for us to give salvation (to save our souls from death and to live forever). Through His death we get Salvation and through His resurrection He sent us the helper the Holy Spirit who lives within us. Through His death we got the opportunity to repent and turn back to our Father in heaven.

Hats off to the organizers of this ceremony. The 7 k.m. stations of the cross procession, which hundreds of christians attend bare foot every year.
GOOD FRIDAY is not merely about fasting and mourning of Jesus Christ, instead it teaches us to follow the path of LORD and emerge triumphant from failure and suffering.
