Heavy Rains Pummel Bangalore: Roads, Houses Flooded

Bangalore, Apr 22 (TNN): The rain came down, and as usual, traffic stopped and houses were flooded. The steady downpour went on late into the night on Thursday April 21 and continued on Friday April 22, bringing down the mercury.

The rainfall, which measured around 7.4mm, was described by officials as normal when taking the entire month into account. But as rain on a single April day, it was significant, with Yelahanka coming under nearly 14.7mm of heavy rain. Showers are expected for two more days, and will complete the seasonal period by April-end.

The spell of rain definitely brought respite from the heat, keeping temperatures low and moderate. Parts of South, North and East Bangalore received good rain but caused a traffic jam around the central business district. The road from MG statue to CTO Circle was chock-a-bloc with vehicles inching along.

KG Road was also jammed with vehicles close to the KSRTC bus stand. Rain, coupled with the long weekend and buses heading out of Bangalore, were responsible for the jam, people at Majestic bus stand said. There was water-logging in areas close to Bommasandra, and some houses were also flooded, BBMP officials said.

There were complaints from Shantinagar, Madiwala and Tavarekere. While one tree reportedly fell on Malleswaram 15th Cross, others fell on Hennur main road and near ITC factory in Banaswadi. No injuries were reported. There were also complaints of power failure from RT Nagar and BTM Layout.

Has Congress ever said “because of Rs.150 billion mining scam we have done CWG, 2G and 3G?”
Own it up man, Say yes we goofed up, we will punish the irresponsible guy and it will never happen again.

Jossey Saldanha, Mapusa you comment a lot against Bangalore for this havoc. Do you know that Mumbai city the financial capital of our country also faces such type of havoc during rainy season every year. Now tell me who is ruling in Maharastra state?? I am waiting for your funny/chidish comments.

HMR, Moodabidri agreed with your comments. Even though when the govt and BBMP has made enough provisions of dustbins for throwing waste things the general public still throw waste things on the road side which will result in such type of havocs. So in this case we have to blame public first and not the govt.

Agreed with you Nagesh Nayak to some extent.

@Jacob Mendonsa, Udupi/Abu dhabi/Bangalore, Jossey Saldanha, Mapusa, Stanley, Udupi/KWT agreed proper measure was not taken by the present state govt, but this type is problem is common in bangalore during rainy seasons not only during BJP govt in the past also when the other govts were ruling in the state. I will ask you people why the previous govts like JDS or congress didnot take any precautionary measures to avoid such type of havoc. Now you people easily blame BJP govts.

Does anyone know here that there were similar water blocks in other parts of India which are ruled by Congress!! Thanks Daijiworld, you guys were not there when SMKrishna ruled the state! Or say not everyone had an internet connection! Comparing a flat land like Dubai to a complicated terrain like Bangalore is the dumbest thing! I agree that there is some part of negligence on Govt. body, but do not blame entirely on Govt. There is a lot to blame on ourself, who throw garbage on streets, use plastics and drain them through toilet, do you think Govt. should come and clean your house everyday?? Water blockage is pretty common on the first rain as waste gets washed away from high lying areas to low lying areas, that does not have to do anything with Govt. get this in your pea sized brain fellows! Even in developed countries like US, water blockage does occur..

And Mr.Nagesh Nayak, please do not support Yeddi! He is no sacha (just out of context for this topic, but still..)

Well said Mr.Navneeth, this is how yeddi is keeping Bangaloreans from going to costal areas to enjoy sea and Jet Ski ride. Definitely next time he will offer Jet Ski bikes and speed boats to people and again win the election. Try to understand the plan behind all these chaos.
