Mumbai, Sep 17:  A teacher died in a North Mumbai suburb on Friday, September 16, after she got stuck in a school lift, police sources said.

Jenel Fernandes (26) was waiting on the sixth floor of the school building to get to the staff room on the second floor at around 1 pm. As soon as she entered the lift, the doors closed on her, police said.

"When she entered the lift, the doors closed on her and the lift started moving, and she was stuck," said Vishal Thakur, deputy commissioner of police, zone 11.

The school staff rushed to help her and she was dragged out but was severely injured.

She was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared her brought dead on arrival.

"During the primary investigation, we registered an accidental death report. Should there be any foul play, we will act accordingly," said the police official.

R.I.P Jenel. Such a tragic incidence. The manufacturers of the Lift are solely responsible. How did the lift start moving when she was stuck in the door of the elevator as the buttons are on the opposite side. Secondly, when the censors of the lift sensed an object they should have moved back. Hence, it is clear that the elevator malfunctioned and this cost a human life. Very Sad.

Very tragic and sad incident. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Lift maintenance company and manufacture are fully responsible. Even though door try to close, or partially closed lift car should not move in any direction. Some safety interlocks might have bypassed sure. Strictly investigation is required to avoid further accidents. Culprit should be booked for playing with innocent lives.

Something not right here. She alone was waiting for lift in 6th floor. As she was alone she would enter the lift as soon as lift door opened. Very unlikely that lift doors opened and suddenly closed in fraction of seconds on her unless the lift was working like an alligator.

My sincere condolences to the family and especially traumatized children of this teacher. No matter how careful in life you want to be, makes me wonder about the periodic maintenance of this lift and thousands such others in our country, cops need to dig deep into the maintenance records of this lift if there is such a thing as periodic maintenance!
