Various vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes of Tulunadu, biriyani, pelakayi gatti, gendadadde, aapa, chutni, payasa, rotti, and homemade wines and pickles will be available at the ‘Saamarasya Aaharotsava, food festival. Fruit juices also will be available.
Speaking about the unique festival and the idea behind its organization, Rev Sandeep said that through Samarasya - 2011 we want to reinstate food and culture, which are very much part of life, could be potential tools to communicate the message of peace.
Elaborating further, he said that Dakshina Kannada, the land of living faiths and religions is known for its plurality, culture of tolerance and peace. However, recent developments have made it a district of hatred brimming with religious intolerance. Peace groups, interfaith dialogues, seminars and colloquium have been initiated for building a culture of peace. However, these initiatives have their own limitations as they adopt the ‘traditional way’ involving the apex leadership from the socio-economic and religious arenas, he observed.
He added, "It is important to note that the fabric of civil society is woven from continual communication and exchange between people – through interpersonal, informal and cultural processes as well as through formal institutions and official channels. Thus, food and culture are intertwined with the lives of people making it a potential tool to nourish peaceful living and inter-faith conflict resolution."
On the occasion cultural extravaganza will be presented by various organizations like Karnataka Beary Sahithya Academy, Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy, Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy, Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodabidre, Father Muller Charitable Institutions, CSI Shanthi Cathedral, CSI Sushanthi Church, CSI Vishranthi Church, Sandesha ( a foundation for culture and education), Kadri Nrithyalaya, Jamat-e-Islami Hind DK District Unit.
