Beltangady, Sep 23: The Dharmasthala police have booked a case against youth under Sections 353, 504, 332, and 506 of the IPC.
The incident was reported on Friday, September 16 midnight in front of Kokkada Sumuka stores in Beltangady taluk.
The complainant is Dundappa Somappa Jangappagola (28) of Jainpura village, Babaleshwara taluk, Vijayapura district, presently residing at Kokkada.
The accused is identified as Rijesh, a resident of Ajkuri house in Dharmasthala village. As per the complaint filed by Dundappa Somappa Jangappagola who is working as a lineman in the Kokkada branch of the Ujire sub-division of Mescom, he was returning home after his official duty.
While returning he saw his colleagues Umesh Hainapura, Anwar, Umesh B and Ashok Rathod standing at the Kokkada junction in front of the Sumaka Stores and went to speak with them. Umesh Hainapura was informed about the power being disconnected at Kanthu Poojary's residence in Muddige of Hathiyadka village as the residents did not pay electricity bills for five to six months.
He also told them that the power connection had been cut-off as per the order of higher officials of his department. After the family members had paid the bill amount his higher officials had directed him to restore the connection.
The accused Rijesh came to the spot and found out the lineman among them who had cut the power connection. Umesh Hainapura replied that he was the person. Rijesh questioned lineman Umesh Hainapura as to why he had cut off the power supply to Kanthu Poojary’s house.
In a scuffle and while abusing Umesh Hainapura, the accused tried to assault Umesh. Meanwhile, the complainant and other colleagues tried to stop the fight. Rijesh brought a soda bottle from a nearby shop and hit the complainant's head with the bottle.
Later, the accused threatened the lineman of his life and left the scene after throwing away the soda bottle. The complainant was severely injured and was admitted to the government hospital in Beltangady.
