Dubai, Apr 26: She had already made a mark with her golden voice, and now she has topped that achievement with a gold medal in academics.
Veera Rodrigues, one of the finalists of Gulf Voice of Mangalore 2010 edition, has bagged the gold in bachelor's degree in travel and tourism, under Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).
Veera is the daughter of the late Titus Rodrigues and Hilda Rodrigues from Agrar parish, Mangalore, and is currently working with Basem International in Dubai.
She landed in Dubai four years ago, and while such a change would put an end to the academic pursuits of most people, for Veera it was not an impediment. She was determined to continue her studies, despite her professional and social committments.
Even though she was already employed, she went on to join Dubai's Knowledge Village and registered herself with IGNOU. Three years of hard work, studying at home as well as attending classes whenever possible, saw her pass out with flying colours by securing a distinction and gold medal in her chosen field.
Veera was conferred the gold medal recently in New Delhi during the IGNOU convocation programme.
Truly, Veera Rodrigues, with her all-round achievements both in her singing and academic careers, is an inspiration to all those who wish to pursue their goals despite other committments.
