Mangalore: DYFI, KPRS Stage Stir - Demand Housing Sites, Title Deeds for Farmers

Mangalore, Apr 26: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Karnataka Pranta Raita Sangha (KPRS) jointly staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office on Tuesday April 26, to urge the district administration to fulfill various demands of the farmers. The protesters urged the administration to provide housing sites, title deeds to all the poor landless families.
Addressing the protestors, KPRS district president K R Shriyan said that one of the major demands of the protestors is disposing of all housing site related pending application forms. There are 48,000 landless families and 17,000 families without title deeds in the district. The state government in its election manifesto had assured to provide houses to two lakh homeless families in the state. Keep aside 2 lac houses, the government has not even provided homes to the flood victims,” he alleged. He urged that panchayat, township and municipality must earmark housing sites for poor people immediately.
As many as 7,000 applications through DYFI have been submitted by the public seeking for the site and nearly 4,000 application forms have been submitted through KPRS. The rest of the applications were also submitted to the DC.
Farmers in large numbers took part in the protest. The protest rally was held from Town Hall earlier. K Yadav Shetty, chief secretary and Munir Katipalla, vice president of DYFI were present.
