Kundapur, Apr 27: Kannada Kudru, which is one of the special kudru (island) in Hemmady gram panchayat limit of the taluk is now sanctioned a bridge. Delightful days are ahead for the hundreds of families residing there.
Basically the picturesque island which is surrounded by Sauparnika and Panchagangavali rivers is a residential island. Every year residents here faced the threat of inundation during heavy monsoon as river Sauparnika overflowed.
It is known that around 300 years ago, people belonging to Christian and Hindu community migrated from Kemmannu region and settled here. People residing in this island which comprises 60 houses and 100 acres of farming land were demanding for a bridge from years ago. Byndoor MLA Laxminarayana positively responded to the demand and conducted a spot inspection. He understood the situation prevailing there and consulted the state government and succeeded in sanctioning Rs 50 lac for the purpose.
Survey work has already been completed with the co-operation of PWD department and the work will start soon. It is planned to construct 165 meter long bridge along with embankment (artificial bank) of 120 meters for the purpose of revetment. Already the estimation of required fund has been prepared, and the work will be initiated soon, said MLA Laxminarayana. Residents of Kudru are now heaving a sigh of relief.
A government primary school stopped functioning from 6 years resulting in education as a dream for the children. People here are deprived of basic facilities like education and hospital. Among all discrepancies, the fulfillment of their longstanding demand for a bridge has made them happy to great extent.
Kannada Kudru – A Magical Experience
The island consisting attractive portion of land is the heaven for nature lovers. More then 600 people residing here depend on agriculture even though transportation of crops is a big problem for them. A few acres of land which is left barren due to lack of irrigation facility could be improved and converted as productive land. Many, who migrated from here due to absent of a bridge till period, are now looking forward to come back to the same island.
