Mangalore: Varsity to Honour 3 Achievers at Newly Built Mangala Auditorium

Mangalore, Apr 28: Mangalore University will confer ‘Honoris Causa’ to three achievers during the 29th annual convocation of Varsity at the newly built Mangala Auditorium here on Saturday April 30.
Speaking at a press meet here on Thursday April 28 Vice Chancellor TC Shivashankar Murthy said, while retired DGP Ajai Kumar Singh will be bestowed the honour in the field of literature and administration, litterateurs Bannanje Govindacharya and DK Chowta will be honoured for the services in the field of literature and literature and social service, respectively. Governor HR Bhardwaj will do the honours.
As part of convocation, 70 Doctor of Philosophy degrees (Arts 16, Science 47, Commerce 5 and Education 2) will be awarded. There will be 31 gold medals and 56 cash prizes. In total, there are 63 ranks (P.G 44, U.G 19, Arts 12, Science and Technology 32, Commerce 8, Law 4, Education 3 and P.G. Diploma 4).
In all, out of 21,415 candidates who appeared for the exams, 13833 have passed. Among these, 793 will receive degrees in person. Higher education minister Dr V S Acharya and former Lokayukta M N Venkatachalaiah will be the chief guests.
Mangala Auditorium with Heritage Look
The 1,000 seater Mangala auditorium constructed expending Rs 11 crore, fully funded by university internal resources is a grand building with 3045 sq ft circular width. The verandah of the auditorium has 26 pillars giving the building its heritage look. The pillars have capitals with Corinthian design. The beautifully carved grand main door is made of teak.
The Mangala Auditorium and the 40 lac worth main entrance on the North of Mangalore-Mudipu-Melkar road will be formally inaugurated by union minister for law M Veerappa Moily. The syndicate had also decided to concretize the road connecting to faculty buildings expending Rs 117 lacs.
