Your Conduct should be Above Board: Advani Tells BJP Leaders
Bangalore, Apr 28 (PTI): In an apparent reference to Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, veteran BJP leader L K Advani today said conduct of party leaders should be above board and opposition must not be given a chance to point finger at them.
"I feel that BJP and BJP workers have a big responsibility ...in the present situation our conduct should always be above board, absolutely above board," Advani said.
"No one should be able to say that here I am committing any wrong," the former Deputy Prime Minister said after inaugurating the party's new office-building here. Advani, however, made no mention of Yeddyurappa, who was among the dignitaries present at the function.
Yeddyurappa, who completes three years in office next month, has been under constant attack by opposition Congress and JD-S which had repeatedly raised allegations of corruption, nepotism and favouritism against him.
The Opposition attack embarrassed BJP as it came at a time when the party was going hammer and tongs against UPA on scams. Advani said, "....ours is not an ordinary party, ours is an extraordinary party and therefore any small shortcoming is highlighted more than in any other party. Another party...they can loot, indulge in so many things and get away with it, not the BJP."
He said the BJP is "marked very carefully" and even its smallest flaw is highlighted, and asked partymen to understand this. Advani said, "...the fact that we win an election is not as important as what we do after winning an election, how well we administer, how well we govern, what's the reputation that we earn....".
