Doha: Tulu Koota Showcases Rich Coastal Culture at Annual Day Celebrations

Doha, Apr 30: Tulu Koota Qatar celebrated its unique event of the year Tulu Parba on the occasion of their annual day celebration at the Al Ghazal Club Doha on Friday April 29.
The chief guest of the evening was M T Quereshi, first secretary at the embassy of India. Dr Shanthram Shetty, vice-chancellor of Nitte University and chairman of Tejasvini Hospital and Vasanti Shetty were the special guests of the evening. Ravi Shetty and Asmath Ali were the guests of honor.
The opening address was delivered by Prakash Ajila and Sowmya Shetty was the host of the evening.
The evening began with the lighting of the lamp by Vasanti Shetty, Jyothi Shetty, Pramila Poojary, Reshma Ajila, Shobha Shetty, Archana Shetty, Vani Rao and Della Rego.
The cultural programme was conducted by young and talented Shresht and Teeshta who are class 10 students and accomplished swimmers who have brought laurels to the Tulu Nadu community with their achievements at the state and national levels.
Welcome song was sung by Veena, Vijaya, Lavanya and Jyothi, followed by a classical dance by Archana, Akshaya, Padma and Chithali. Thereafter, a Tulu dance, a unity-in-diversity folk dance and Dashavatara semi-classical dance were performed by the Koota members.
During the stage programme, Divakakar Poojary introduced Dr Shanthram Shetty to the audience and spoke about his dedication and involvement in social service activities. Ravi Shetty and Koota president felicitated Dr Shanthram Shetty with a shawl and a memento.
Dr Shanthram Shetty addressed the gathering and said that he was impressed by the Tulu Koota activities and thanked the Koota for honouring him. He lavished rich praises on the South Canara people for their role in the development of India, especially in the education and the financial fields. Guest of honor Ravi Shetty thanked and everyone who worked hard for the success of the Tulu Koota activities.
Tulu Koota throw ball team was honoured for its achievement during the last MCC throw ball tournament. Volleyball and Kabaddi team captains and managers were also felicitated by the guests. Choreographers Archana Shetty, Akshatha Hegde, Chithali Shetty, Akshaya Shetty and Vijaya Shetty, directors Dineshchandra Shetty, Chandrashekar Shetty and Abdul Salam were also honoured.
Tulukoota souvenir 'Nirel' was released on the occasion by Dr Shantharam Shetty.
Guest artistes from Mangalore Sandesh and Jyothsna kept the evening charged with songs in Kannada, Tulu, and Hindi. Sandesh has performed in a number of music concerts in India and abroad. Jyothsna Puthram, a BA in Carnatic music and Bharathanatyam, has performed in local TV channels in Mangalore and in various music concerts in India.
A Tulu Drama "Tulunada Vaibava" added an extra flavour to the evening's entertainment. The vote of thanks was proposed by Archana Shetty. More than 600 people took part in this celebration.
