Udupi: 50-year-old Eugene Britto dies after speeding pickup vehicle hits him

Udupi, Oct 10: A pedestrian was killed as he was hit by a pickup vehicle driver recklessly. This incident occurred on Sunday October 9 night near Jayaram service station at Nyarma of Shirva.

The deceased is identified as Eugene Britto (50), younger brother of complainant Stany Britto (60), residing near Shirva mosque.

Eugene was walking on footpath on public road near Jayarama service station while the pickup vehicle driven recklessly by Alex Joseph Barboza knocked him down. A severely injured Eugene was taken to Ajjarkad hospital by the pickup driver. But the doctors declared him dead at 9.40 pm.

A case in this connection is registered in Shirva police station.

    Pedestrians have the way of right to walk. Whereas vehicle drivers have to respect human lives. It’s not an accident. It’s called manslaughter and no compensation can fill the loss of this family. Therefore, the law should act in accordance with the legislation and bring about justice immediately.
