Udupi: Unused water tank demolished by gram panchayat – Video goes viral for wrong reasons

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JS/EP)

Udupi, Oct 12: A video stating that an unused huge water tank at Koteshwara has toppled over on to the road has gone viral on social media. However, the gram panchayat in fact demolished it after taking sufficient precautions.

The water tank was unused for the last ten years. It was demolished in a nine hour long operation by the Koteshwara gram panchayat with the cooperation of various departments.

The national highway was also blocked for a few minutes to ensure safety. There was no untoward incident but people are portraying it as an accident.

The Koteshwara gram panchayat had warned the people a day in advance that the tank would be demolished.

They could've used it for storage and supply of water. Since they took 9 hrs to demolish, structure was good. May be time to build another one and percentage?

What is the cost to build a tank like this.? Isn't this a waste of tax payers money? Now in some years they will sanction for a new tank by stating that construction of aa tank is required to supply water to the town. This is happening in many places like breaking of small bridges, school blocks etc every where in Karnataka.

This is another component of Double Engine Growth of this govt. First is demolishing houses, water tanks and bull dozing opponent’s houses. Second is renaming roads and circles. There you have Double Engine Development.

Not done in a scientific way. The authority of the gram panchayat should be taken for the task.
