Mangaluru, Oct 14: Beware of thefts of water meter flaps (cover). Yes, even if this is surprising it is true that lids of water meters that are placed in the front portion of the house have gone missing in many houses. This act has however gone unnoticed among many home dwellers.

A water meter cover costs about Rs 800. Many of them allege that the lids are stolen and are sold as scrap in the market. Many also suspect that there is a racket operating in the market.

According to Manohar Mallya, there is information that a few houses on Mannagudda, Car Street have found their water meter lids stolen.

Thieves strike when they are certain that no one is at home. He says all the family members need to be cautious about these activities.

Also, some drainage covers (manholes) have gone missing. It is said that some lids have been stolen and sold in the market. The corporation also needs to take cognisance of such acts, people feel.
