Absconding life imprisonment convict from Kerala arrested in Udupi

Udupi, Oct 18: A convict under life imprisonment who had escaped from Nettukatari jail of Kerala state has been arrested from Udupi district.

Rajesh (39) is the escaped convict arrested.

Rajesh was sentenced in a rape and murder case in Vatapur police station limits of Thiruvananthapuram rural district.

Rajesh was undergoing life imprisonment in Thiruvananthapuram central jail earlier. Later on he was shifted to Nettukatari jail from where he escaped from prison on December 23, 2020. He was absconding for nearly two years.

He was the main culprit in rape and murder case of a minor girl in Kerala in 2012. He was sentenced to death by hanging in 2013 but later on it was converted to life imprisonment.

On the confirmed information received about the absconding culprit residing in Udupi district, the local police arrested Rajesh from Kabbinahithlu in Nailadi Billadi Gram Panchayat limits of Brahmavar taluk.

The Kerala police took his custody after he was presented before the court in Kundapur.

The arrest was made under the guidance of Akshaya M H, superintendent of police, Udupi district, S T Siddalingappa, ASP Sudhakar S. Nayak, DySP, police heads and officers of Brahmavar.

Kota police station also took part in the arrest.
