Complaint lodged against Kannada actor for 'hurting' Hindu sentiments

Udupi, Oct 20 (IANS): Hindu Jagaran Vedike has lodged a police complaint against Kannada actor Chetan Ahimsa for allegedly 'hurting' Hindu sentiments in Udupi district of Karnataka, police said on Thursday.

Hindu Jagran Vedike, a right wing group affiliated to the RSS, has mentioned that actor Chetan Ahimsa had issued derogatory and insulting statements, while making comments on tradition of 'Bhoota Kola' used in superhit Kantara movie.

The complaint also alleges that the actor had hurt the sentiments of Hindus.

Actor Chetan Ahimsa allegedly also hurt sentiments of Hindus by putting up posts on social media. The Hindu group has urged the police to summon the actor to the police station and stop him from issuing statements hurting Hindus.

Reacting to statement of Rishab Shetty, Director and hero of Kantara movie, Chetan Ahimsa stated that the tradition of Bhoota Kola is not a part of Hindu religion and it existed even before Hindu religion came into existence.

Like how Hindi language can't be imposed, Hindutva can't be imposed on people. Hindu is different from Hinduism. Bhoota Kola is the tradition of natives of the land. It won't come under Hindu religion, Chetan Ahimsa had stated stirring a controversy.

Intent of Chetan Ahimsa is to come to limelight and get in to Indian politics. He knows that once you are with a political party in India, you can easily become rich and famous. He indeed could not achieve in film industry and neither could do anything in USA. Poor fellow is desperate to get publicity and popularity to get in to politics without actually working for the society...

Religious sentiments are not so week. These people are making a mockery of religion. Eagles dont sit in a shelter when it rains, they fly above the clouds and this applies to all real religions. Some do it for free publicity and some jobless people in every religion cry on sentiments on such silly issues. People move on we have better things to do in life. Religion doesnt feed.

Vedic name for the area of India was Bharath Varsha, which many people still prefer to call it by that name. When the Muslim invaders arrived from such places as Afghanistan and Persia, they called the Sindhu River the Hindu River. Thereafter, the name “Hindu” was used to describe the inhabitants from that tract of land in the northwestern provinces of India where the Sindhu River is located, and the region itself was called “Hindustan.” Because the Sanskrit sound of “S” converts to “H” in the Parsee language, the Muslims pronounced the Sindhu as “hindu,” even though at the time the people of the area did not use the name “hindu” themselves. This word was used by the Muslim foreigners to identify the people and the religion of those who lived in that area. Thereafter, even the Indians conformed to these standards as set by those in power and used the names Hindu and Hindustan. Otherwise, the word has no meaning except for those who place value on it or now use it out of convenience.

Muslims called the people living around the banks of River Hindu(SINDHU) as hind (HINDUS), But it was Alexandr the great around 300 BC, called the River Sindhu as Hindu, because the Greeks were not able to pronounce SI (SEE). Just like Saudi Arabians can't pronounce" B". B is pronounced as "P". eg BARBER- pronounced as- PARBER

All who live in Hindustan are hindustanis or hindus for short. This blessed country is amalgamation of various religions, cultures, traditions, languages and are continually evolving. Santhana Dharma cannot claim exclusivity over hindustan as it belongs to all diversity of people living here.

Way of life and Religion is one and the same and meant for each other. One can not be despised for another. Both need to be respected, observed and followed. Those who put distinction between these two neither respect, observe nor follow both.

Hinduism is a culture. Sanatana Dharma is the religion. Bhootada Kola is not part of Sanatana Dharma. It is a very specific religious and cultural practice native our land. These Hindi speaking North Indians (Aryans) are conflating religion with culture. They then are trying to exclude people who do not follow their version of Sanatana Dharma . They want to impose their culture, literature, food, religion, and language on us. If we have some self respect, we will oppose this. Unfortunately, quite a few of our people seem to have been hypnotized and are full participants in this North Indian project. I would like to add that people in our land have been Christian, Muslim, Jain, and Buddhist much longer time that the North Indians have been following the Sanatana Dharma. It was only around 730 AD that Adi Shankar started a movement that converted the ancestors of these North Indians from Buddhism to Sanatana Dharma.

Good point Jafer, Mangalore Whether RSS cheif says it or not...it is true...Hindu does not mean religion...just like Saudi, Turkish, Singaporean and Indonesian does not mean Muslim. With Saudi's was sold so in South Asia and South Asia only, that it a different matter. For Indians who share everything except religion, language and thinking (unity in diversity) it does not take even a bit of Indian out of you unless you want it or have vested interest. If you do, even law of the land cannot help you.

Your are contradicting your own statement given in the beginning. Hinduism is no doubt a way of life. It accomodates many beleifs including atheism and agnosticism. therefore to say that the tradition of Bhoota Kola existed before Hinduism is totally wrong. All put together is Hinduism and Hinduism is just a way of life.

We should learn history with an open mind, What were our moola practices before other cultures were introduced to us? all these are debatable. To learn the truth we don't condemn each other, we debate. Ignorance is not knowledge. We can't deny Bhutharadhane was restricted to only a certain sect of thuluwas, also in Kerala but not to all.

What he has told MR Chethan are facts and practices prevailing from Eon .. So one can practice both belief in ancestral spirits .. ancestor worship .. and worship Hindu gods which is happening..going also to temples .. here there is no conflict ..But the explanations are leading to confrontation by vested interests ... Also how MR Chethan has explained or taken a stand ... Scholars can sort this out not street half baked activists.. Ganesha Habba practices immersion etc are recent .. meaning about festivals in last 200 years .. Lok Manya tilak and others .. Anyway we have to celebrate vibrancy of India .. Spirituality . faith .. salvation ..beliefs .. offerings ..

It is better not to comment anything against any religion. It is a personal belief. He had not insulted the Daiva if it is then as per the belief Daiva will give punishment as per tradition and rituals.
