Udupi: Accused punches cops taking him to prison, escapes into forest

Udupi, Oct 21: An accused, who was being taken by the police to the district prison after producing him in the court, pushed the escort cops and ran into a nearby forest at Hiriadka on October 20.

Mohammed Rahiq (22) is accused in a case under the limits of Kundapur police station. He was arrested on October 19 and was produced before the ACJ and JMFC court of Kundapur on October 20. The judge remanded him to judicial custody.

The escort police were taking the accused in a private vehicle to the district prison at Hiriadka. As the cops were alighting the accused at the main entrance of district prison at Kajaraguthu main entrance, he pushed the escorts, punched their abdomen and ran into the nearby forest.

The Hiriadka police have registered one more case on the accused in this connection and the hunt is on for him.
