A modern and a well-equipped cricket stadium has been a dream for all cricket lovers of the coastal districts. A 22-acre land owned by the government near the Mangalore University has been reserved for building a cricket stadium.

Former deputy commissioner Dr K V Rajendra had prepared the design and sent the proposal to the government. It is said that the government is likely to approve the construction of a stadium in Mysuru at the regional office initially to be followed by the cricket stadium proposal for Mangaluru.

Officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association are enthused about building a cricket stadium in Mangaluru. Officials have assured that construction of the cricket stadium will be taken up after the government accords its approval and allots the land for the purpose.

A detailed project report (DPR) for the stadium is being prepared and the construction is likely to be completed within three years. The district administration has assured the cricket officials of all assistance and cooperation, Dr Rajendra had informed.

In Bondel, a five-acre plot has been identified that is related to NMPT for setting up a horse riding centre and a police firing training centre.

We should encourage other sports -- Foot ball- kabaddi -- Athletics--- Track and field -- swimming -- Same land can be used for multiple sports at less cost -- Already enough cricket stadiums in India -- and lying waste -- there are not much matches even in the largest stadium in gujarat -- In a year may be used maximum (average) one month -- --various other infrastructure needed for cricket -- overall except IPL -- becoming popular -- not much scope for cricket -- Encouraging betting -- politics -- Mr AMIT SHAH son in the highest position not because of cricket knowledge all know reasons --

Konaje is not at all right place for commuters. They could have selected closer to highway. For people from Udupi and Kundapura it is inconvenient. With only Mangalore crowd you cannot manage a international stadium.

Respectfully disagree. Stadiums shall not be near highway. We do not want congestion on highways as well due to close proximity of stadiums. As things stand the highways in and around mangalore already have enough "speed breakers" like junctions, crossings, little towns, animals including pedestrians, vehicles plying on wrong side, etc.

First let the service bus stand, central market which was demolished last year, the old service bus stand for parking be constructed and then go for a international cricket stadium. People are waiting for the new service bus stand for more than two decades.

Construction of stadium will be done by KSCA and major part of the contribution will come from them. As such the question of government interference doesn't come. Only the government has to approve lease deed
