Mangaluru/Udupi: Astrophiles feast on solar eclipse view, believers perform rituals

Mangaluru/Udupi, Oct 25: Several astrophiles enjoyed the safe view of partial solar eclipse on Tuesday, October 25 at Panambur beach, Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Commerce, Science and Management at Balmatta in Mangaluru and Malpe beach in Udupi.

Meanwhile, several believers performed pujas, rituals including fasting in view of the eclipse which visible from 5:09 pm to 6:06 pm.

In Mangaluru, the Amateur Astronomers’ Association along with Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) had arranged for public viewing of the phenomenon.

For the easy and safe viewing of eclipse, arrangements were made at the sixth floor of Yenepoya Degree College led by Rohith Rao and Dr Sangeethalaxmi M J of Amateur Astronomers’ Association.

A screen projection of telescopic view and ISO certified Solar Eclipse Goggles were arranged by the organisers.

Hundreds of people watch solar eclipse from Malpe beach in Udupi

The Malpe Development Committee and Poornaprajna College Alumni Association had jointly arranged for the watching of the solar eclipse led by Poornaprajna Amateur Astronomers' Club at Malpe beach here on Tuesday.

Hundreds of people including MLA K Raghupathi Bhat took part and watched the solar eclipse with great enthusiasm. The facility was provided with the most modern telescope. Several people also watched the phenomenon with the help of solar spectacles.

Prayers and devotional services were held at Sri Krishna Math during the eclipse. The priests took bath in the lake as the solar eclipse got over.
Similar facility was made available for the public at Parkala, Udupi.

    Nowhere near the solar eclipse of 7th April 1978, but for new generation it is part of their learning experience about celestial events. Good pictures with clouds never interrupting the views.
