Udupi: Police chase away commercial sex workers, warn them against continuing flesh trade

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SS)

Udupi, Oct 28: The police here have issued a warning to commercial sex workers who were trying to attract customers at the service bus station and at the old KSRTC bus station.

The police acted on repeated complaints that they have been getting from the public against the continuing flesh trade in public places. It is said that thousands of labourers and workers frequent this area and it is a busy public area. Despite being warned against continuing such activities the flesh trade has continued unabated in prominent public places.

A few private hotels also provide rooms to the commercial sex workers at concessional rates and share commissions in the trade. Against the backdrop of information available with the police and the complaints received, the police chased away the sex workers and warned them against containing their activity.

The sex workers ran helter-skelter when they saw a police vehicle coming towards them. Police said they issued a warning to the commercial sex workers based on the complaints received from the public.

Respected DC, IAS, IPS, ministers leave 4 walls & go out on surprise checks in your area otherwise people will lose faith in democracy. happened to pass thru this area once at 12:30pm losing my way & was shocked beyond consolation at state of Temple city, one side prostitutes openly walking to car, another side chakkas & hidden here & there with college bags on shoulders were pimps in addition to dangerous looking people in commercial vehicles. My only thought was what if a girl student happens to pass this way as a passanger or has a breakdown of vehicle at this hour, she may not make it in one piece!

What is this nonsense chase away? Either government should make it legal or else government/department should take such steps to make their lives better (providing counseling, rehabilitation and jobs etc. etc.). Most of the time poverty is forced to do for their livelihood. Government is spending billions of tax payers money for horse trading/poaching MLAs from other parties. but not bothered about poor people/ poverty.

It is really a disturbing trend. Desperation drives mankind to do things which given any better option, they would desist from doing. Timely counselling helps.

All men are not lucky to have wives or girlfriends to satisfy their needs. Whats wrong if they visit prostitutes by paying money. This should be made legal. If we stop such services they might force someone for sex and this is more disturbing to the society. than prostitution.

when a social nuisance like ALCOHOL is permitted in spite of MK Gandhi prohibited it, why not to regularise 'comfort woman' service for basic human need , as done in all western countries ?

MK Ghandi wasn't all knowing. Alcohol serves its purpose in society. Just check what's happening in a country where alchohol is banned, like Pakistan.

Can not understand what is commercial sex worker... It is the failure of the society when a woman is forced to sell her body in public... Instead of chasing them and creating publicity so called bhatta type leaders must do real work by trying to address their needs... It is not enough to give employment to slain BD worker's wife... Inclusiveness must extend beyond comfort and favorite zones...
