Bengaluru, Oct 28: JD(S) leader and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy has demanded a high level probe into the death of suspended K R Puram inspector of police Nandish.

Addressing a news conference at the JD(S) party office in Bengaluru on Friday, the former chief minister alleged that the Basavaraj Bommai led BJP government was guilty of posting officers on payment and claimed that the death of Inspector Nandish due to heart attack was due to the pressures on him and the agony caused for getting the posting by making hefty payments.

Home Minister Araga Jnanendra and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai must come out with answers to their cabinet colleague M T B Nagaraj’s open admission that police postings were being made on payment, Kumaraswamy said.

The JD(S) leader alleged that the senior officials from North India were responsible for harassing inspector Nandish, who was placed under suspension. The circumstances that led to the heart attack and the allegations of payment of money for postings must be probed by a high-level panel, he said.

Kumarawamy mentioned that deceased inspector Nandish’s wife alleged that her husband had died due to mental pressure. The former chief minister said a pub in the K R Puram jurisdiction was kept open till early morning and Nandish was placed under suspension as the pub was allowed to operate till early morning due to police connivance. The government has allowed bars and pubs to operate till 1 am in the night, and demanded to know who was behind it.

Kumaraswamy claimed that he had studied the background of deceased inspector Nandish and said the police officer belongs to a backward class caste and had secured the posting by making a payment of Rs 70 to 80 lakh. Having made such a huge payment to get the posting, how should the officer recover the money paid for the posting.

He also alleged that Nandish was a relative of an MLC. “If an officer related to an influential politician faces this kind of fate and pressures, what is the situation with others?” he asked.

The former chief minister said the Bommai government was looting money in postings, recruitments and transfers and pointed out that there were several instances of crores of rupees cash seizures in IAS and other senior officers, This government is running on corruption and must be thrown out, he said.
