Mangaluru: Slogans for, against Veer Savarkar raised in MCC meeting

Mangaluru, Oct 29: Slogans supporting and against Veer Savarkar were raised in the general body meeting of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Saturday October 29.

As the meeting started corporator, Naveen D’Souza objected the decision of district administration to rename the Surathkal circle as Veer Savarkar Circle. Another member Abdul Ravoof also seconded the opinion of Naveen. He urged the mayor not to give priority on changing name of circle but concentrate on development work.

All Congress members got down to the well of the auditorium and objected. Chief whip Premananda Shetty said that it is not right to keep quiet when the proposal was accepted and make noise once the order is passed.

The Congress members raised slogans against Veer Savarkar. BJP members started praising Veer Savarkar. Shwetha A, unnecessarily raked up the name of Tipu Sultan. As the situation was turning into chaos, they temporarily postponed the meeting. Though the meeting was held after some time, as no decision was taken, it ended abruptly.

    Savarkar merely fixing a Veer does not make him a brave hero .. Directly he has not got involved in any freedom struggle etc .. Has been always playing the Houdini act ..hiding behind the scenes ... even the mahatma ‘s murder was acquitted only under technical lack of evidence grounds but after his death it is proved his involvement.. ... he lived 20 years after India became free even then no achievements ...

    Why flog the dead horse????… Surathkal toll plaza is to be closed then why this waste of time on dead issue????…. As per BJP, files are moving around and awaiting gazette and prolonged ‘Royal’ signature for closure of the toll plaza but here in the MCC meeting talks about renaming it. Is it are we informed wrongly and misinformation than actually what’s happening inside?????……..Where is Bomma?????

    You are against Tippa because he was against your boot licking british masters. Tippu at least fought against your masters and died on the battlefield for his motherland Bharath Matha, whereas Savarkar was behind killing Father of the Nation.

    Dear Vinod Kumar, Mangalore, History has been written by many people for many centuries before Nehru decided to let his Discovery of India and propaganda thereof on innocent masses and textbooks - all parents say one thing to their kids regarding history text books, viz., you need to parrot this for marks.     BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel vividly cited that Tippu was killed by the britishers. so he himself accepted and educated others that tipu was a freedom fighter, killed fighting the Britishers. where on earth is Savarkar fought for India's freedom struggle and killed fighting the Britishers for country's freedom /Independence.
