Mangaluru/Udupi: Eight eminent personalities to receive Rajyotsava Award

Mangaluru/Udupi, Oct 30: Eight eminent personalities of Coastal Karnataka region from different spheres along with an organisation from Dakshina Kannada will be honoured with the Kannada Rajyotsava award by the Government of Karnataka.

Following is the list of awardees from the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts:

Social Service: Ravi Shetty of Dakshina Kannada district

Business: Jayarama Banaan of Udupi district

Theatre: Prabhakar Joshi of Udupi district

Music: Narayana M of Dakshina Kannada district

Folk music: Daiva Nartaka Gudda Panara of Udupi district

Yakshagana: Sarpadi Ashok Shetty and M A Nayak of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts respectively

Dance: Kamalaksha Acharya of Dakshina Kannada district

Yuva Vahini of Dakshina Kannada district.

The district-level list of Kannada Rajyotsava award winners for the current year is yet to be announced.

    These awards are a sham .. Its more to do with political mileage and one's ability to influence the decision makers. sometimes the govt uses these awards to silence voices of resentment.
