12 arrested for forceful religious conversions in Ramnagar

Ramnagar, Nov 1 (IANS): At least 12 persons were arrested for attempting religious conversions of tribals in Kanakapura taluk of Ramnagar district, police said on Tuesday.

According to police, after gathering specific inputs, a team of its personnel conducted raids and made the arrests.

Police said that the arrested 12 persons were making arrangements for a mass religious conversion of Hindu tribals in the region.

The arrested persons were being grilled by the police.

Preliminary investigations revealed that many people belonging to Chikkamuduwadi Tandya were kept in a house at Kanakapura town.

Sources stated the police will investigate the matter further. More details are yet to emerge regarding the case.

Hindu activists for a long time have been alleging forceful conversions in the region by Christian missionaries. Earlier, the attempts to build the tallest statue of Jesus in the world in Kapalabetta in Kanakapura taluk were made. The Hindu activists then alleged that state Congress President D.K. Shivakumar was supporting the building of the tallest statue of Jesus Christ to impress former AICC President Sonia Gandhi in his constituency.

Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other Hindu organisations had announced agitation against the building of Jesus Christ's statue at Kapalabetta. The Karnataka High Court later gave a stay order on the construction work and gave directions that no work should be carried out without its permission.

No one can be forcefully converted. No one can make me pray to a certain god. Here one community needs to search the answers within themselves and ask question why do people want to leave their religion.

@Alfria, The de facto definition of forced conversion is - "The conversion which BD goons and their mentors don't like and that brings shame to them."

All four accused are from Surat, and one of them is Marathi but speaks Gujarati fluently. None of them is anti-national. If convicted they are eligible for parole 3 months every year and early release for good behaviour. This is BJP Centre-State agreement. Women and girls must support this policy of BJP.

Nobody can forcefully convert anybody, those days are gone. Issue is the treatment of tribals in the name of religion. Remember the drama of CM, Yeddi visit to dalit's house.

We don't support conversion at the point of a sword. And if proved that they were kept in a house by force, then those responsible should be charged for illegal confinement also. Let there be fair investigation without political interference.

Is it possible to forcibly convert someone to another faith unless the person is not in his senses or under influence of magic mushrooms? These thugs entice these converted people by gifts or under pressure to give statements that they have been forcefully converted to create issues and divert public minds from burning issues of the common citizens which need immediate redressal!!

Jumping from One Political Party to another is also a kind of conversion as each party has a different ideology. Here too crores are offered for such defection. They are not treated as converted but are offered plum ministries as reward. Why not same yardstick is used for religious conversion. Or else Political conversion too should be banned in the same spirit.
