Udupi: Lorry driver gets 2.5 yrs jail term for causing death of pedestrian

Udupi, Nov 2: The first additional CJ and JMFC court sentenced Aboobacker, a container lorry driver to two years and six months of imprisonment and levied a fine of Rs 10,000 on charges of driving the container vehicle speedily and negligently and also for causing the death of a pedestrian.

The driver was driving the vehicle from Hebri to Brahmavar and hit pedestrian Krishna Putran walking beside the road on Dharana – Kambala at 4.30 pm on February 28, 2021.

Krishna Putran suffered critical injuries to his thighs, limbs and head before he died. Brahmavar station circle inspector had submitted a chargesheet against the accused to the court.

As the accusation was proved, the first CJ and JMFC court judge Shyam Prasad sentenced the accused Aboobacker to imprisonment and ordered him to pay the fine.

Mohini K argued for the case as a public prosecutor.
