Shivamogga, Nov 10: A couple in Sagar taluk in the district have appealed to assistant commissioner (AC) to permit their family for euthanasia as they are unable to pay the bribe demanded by the taluk panchayat executive officer (EO).

The appeal is submitted to AC Pallavi Satenahalli by Srikanta Naika, a resident of Veelasara near Kugve. In the appeal, Naika stated, “The taluk panchayat EO is harassing us for bribe. We have got our land converted through project commission. As the land is near to urban area its value is high. That is why we are running from post to pillar in taluk panchayat to get an NOC. The officials have kept a demand of Rs 10 lac. As we are poor, we have not given the amount.

“Now the taluk panchayat officials are taking revenge on us as their demand for bribe has become public. They are misusing their authority and making us visit the office every now and then giving lame excuses,” he said.
