Mangaluru, Nov 19: Twenty four Kannada medium schools run by the government are on the brink of closure in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district. The DK unit of the Kannada Sene has alleged that the government is plotting to close down these schools due to the negligence of education department officials in appointing teachers to these schools even though there are enough and more number of students attending such schools. The Sene has alleged that these schools do not have a single teacher to take care of the school or the students.
Guruchandra Hegde, president of the Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Kannada Sene told reporters that Mangaluru north zone has 6 schools, Mangaluru south zone 3, Moodbidri 5, Beltangady 3, Puttur 1, Bantwal 4 and Sullia 1 schools run by the government where there is no presence of even a single teacher. He alleged that these schools have reached such a situation that they can be closed down at any point of time. He said Derebail Holy Family Higher Primary School in Mangaluru has already closed down.
Hegde alleged that the education department officials and the higher officials are conspiring to close down government Kannada medium schools adding that the government has to order an inquiry immediately.
He said no Kannada medium schools in the state should be allowed to close down, Hegde emphasised.
Hegde said he would hand over a letter to the chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and education minister B C Nagesh during their visit to Mangaluru on November 19 and apprise them about the situation of not appointing teachers to Kannada medium schools and the likely closure of such schools.
