Bangalore - Mangalore Day Train Extension to Karwar from June 1

Bangalore - Mangalore Day Train Extension to Karwar from June 1
Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, May 16: Finally, the Bangalore - Mangalore day train will be extended to Karwar, beginning from June 1.

It has been learnt from reliable sources that the Railway authority has already approved the proposal, following a demand from the people of Udupi, Karwar and surrounding areas. It may be recalled that Railway minister Mamata Banerjee had promised to extend the Bangalore - Mangalore train to Karwar during the this year's Budget session.

Though this news brings relief to the communters of Udupi-Karwar area, for the residents of Mangalore it has come as a dampner as the train will no longer stop at Mangalore Central, but only at Mangalore Junction (Kankanady).

The new train timings are as follows:

Departure from Karwar at 5.30 am
Halt at Mangalore Junction at 10.55 am
After an engine change, leaves for Yashwantpur at 11.15 am
Arrives at Yashwantpur at 10.45 pm

(The train will run only three days a week: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday)

Return:

Departure from Yashwantpur at 7.30am
Halt at Mangalore Junction at 5.45 pm
Arrival Karwar at 11.00pm

(Above trains will operate three days a week: Monday, Wednsday and Friday)

The new timing is expected to create inconvience to passengers of the region, but there is no efforts from elected representatives to improve the timings or convert the trains into superfast. If it is converted into super fast atleast 4-5 hours of journey can be saved.

Confirmed, the 16515/16516 the extended train service of Yeshwantpur - Karwar train will not have stop at Kundapur. There is only Udupi, Bhatkal, Mookambika Road Stops. If I am not wrong, Daijiworld did confirm the news of Mr. DV Sadanand Gowda (now CM) pressing on the railway board or the authorities concerned to provide a stop for this train at Kundapur.

Fully Agree with you. Getting any public transport after 9-10 p.m in Karwar is next to impossible and the Auto's parked at the Station charge a bomb.

Firstly thanks to our ministers at the centre. Its good to hear that our needs are fulfilling one by one but still our minister should put more efforts to get our needs done in faster phase. Still m'lore region is under palakkad divison and southern zone where our people have to beg with others to get things done. Because of this we are loosing our revenue and control to other states. Kindly our Railway minister should make m'lore as a separate divisoin and get it under south western zone. Finally hope timing of this train will get altered as per convenience of the people very soon..

This train will not serve any purpose other than a ride without any purpose.

It is a British drawn 18th Century time table.

I think another straight railway line work between hassan to nelamangala line is in progress now which will reduce mangalore-bangalore rail journey by two hours.

B'lore - Karwar train covering such a long distance of over 500 Kms should be made superfast. I'd suggest there is no need for it to touch M'lore Junction (Kankanady) station also where it will be necessary to change engine, which could take more than 30 minutes. Instead stops be made at Suratkal, Thokur (Airport Station)and Farangipet from where I believe passengers living in the vicinity of Mangalore can board or alight without much difficulty since it will be day time. Secondly for those staying in the heart of the city, there is already an evening train to Bangalore via Mysore. What is more important is to reach the destination in the minimum possible time.

Only for the sake of extention the Train has been extended but not for benefit of Udupi and Uttar Kannada people. The reaching time is horrible both Karwar and Bangalore.

Timings are worth a laugh! I think the congress leaders would reach bangalore from karwar faster than this train if they start a padayathra.

Terminate it at Bengaluru City instead of Yeshwathpur. Also, the train should speeded up, made daily, etc..
