Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore
Mangalore, May 16: Finally, the Bangalore - Mangalore day train will be extended to Karwar, beginning from June 1.
It has been learnt from reliable sources that the Railway authority has already approved the proposal, following a demand from the people of Udupi, Karwar and surrounding areas. It may be recalled that Railway minister Mamata Banerjee had promised to extend the Bangalore - Mangalore train to Karwar during the this year's Budget session.
Though this news brings relief to the communters of Udupi-Karwar area, for the residents of Mangalore it has come as a dampner as the train will no longer stop at Mangalore Central, but only at Mangalore Junction (Kankanady).
The new train timings are as follows:
Departure from Karwar at 5.30 am
Halt at Mangalore Junction at 10.55 am
After an engine change, leaves for Yashwantpur at 11.15 am
Arrives at Yashwantpur at 10.45 pm
(The train will run only three days a week: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday)
Return:
Departure from Yashwantpur at 7.30am
Halt at Mangalore Junction at 5.45 pm
Arrival Karwar at 11.00pm
(Above trains will operate three days a week: Monday, Wednsday and Friday)
The new timing is expected to create inconvience to passengers of the region, but there is no efforts from elected representatives to improve the timings or convert the trains into superfast. If it is converted into super fast atleast 4-5 hours of journey can be saved.
