Bangalore, May 16 : Unexpected political drama in Karnataka politics has created tremors not only around the state but also around the country among poltical experts.
No one knows the facts contained in the 'special report' mentioned by the governor of Karnataka H R Bhardwaj, and it is only an imagination of the media and political leaders that the governor has recommended suspension of state assembly and imposition of President's rule in the state.
The law experts around the country have already expressed their outrage against the governor's decision, and are of the unaninimous opinion that the "Governor has no right to suspend or dissolve a government that enjoys a clear majority." Country's top advocates like Soli Sorabji, who is also former attorney general of the country, has criticised the governor in very harsh words.
State's top advocate B V Acharya also criticised the governor in a similar way.
At this point of time, if anyone is supporting the governor, it is the JD(S) and Congress.
But political experts in the state are of the opinion that CM Yeddyurappa has now become stronger than ever as even the dissidents within the party have expressed open support to Yeddyurappa by forgetting all corruption charges and allegations of land scams against the CM. The governor's decision has come like a boon to the CM as this could be a great opportunity for him to regroup and take all the MLAs in his confidence.
If the state assembly is suspended according to the governor's recommendation, then the CM might lose power for some time, but in all probability, he would come back to power even more strongly, as the sympathy waves are expected to favour Yeddyurappa in the next assembly elections. One cannot forget the sympathy votes he garnered during the 2008 assembly polls when Kumaraswamy had denied him the reigns of the state after 20 months of JD(S)-BJP rule.
One must admire B S Yeddyurappa for his courage as CM despite facing several setbacks during last three years. More than the Opposition, it was his own partymen who gave him headaches time and again, but he resolutely faced every challenge and emerged triumphant each time. He has definitely proved himself to be a man who cannot be destablilized easily with any political trick.
If at all the BJP is on a strong wicket in Karnataka today, it is not because of its development works or administrative skills, but purely because of the weakness of the Opposition. Poor leadership of Congressmen, low strength and the corruption-tainted image of the JD(S) father-son duo have allowed BJP to move from strength to strength every day.
On the other hand, full credit goes to Yeddyurappa's poltical leadership, and he has played his cards well. He came to power riding on the money power of the Reddy brothers, but since then, the CM has systematically clipped the wings of the Reddys, and almost weakned their power. He was also successful in sidelining central BJP leader and his 'within the party' rival Ananth Kumar, who was silently trying to destabilise Yeddyurappa.
Now all eyes are on Delhi, with speculations rife as to what decision would be taken by the PM, home minister and other top leaders.
Also the question arises, will the governor, who is one of the top lawmakers of the country and a former law minister take a 'silly' decision without going through the pages of the Law book?
Let's wait and see.
